Recycling has a direct impact on environmental protection. Thanks to lower energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change are also reduced.
In Slovakia, a large portion of municipal waste consists of materials that can be further processed. It is estimated that approximately 40% of waste could be recycled. If we also include biodegradable waste, proper sorting can significantly reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.
Waste sorting and subsequent recycling help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Recyclable materials are returned to the cycle and used to manufacture new products.
There are still a large number of landfills in Slovakia—not only legal ones, but also illegal ones. That is why it is important for each of us to approach waste sorting responsibly and help reduce their number.
Manufacturing products from recycled materials requires less energy than manufacturing them from new raw materials. Processes such as the extraction, transportation, and processing of primary resources consume large amounts of energy.
By sorting waste and subsequently recycling it, we can significantly simplify these processes and reduce energy consumption. This means more efficient production and a smaller environmental footprint.
Recycling waste helps conserve natural resources that we would otherwise have to continuously extract and process. Through recycling, used materials are transformed into new products, thereby reducing the need to use raw materials such as wood, water, and mineral resources.
If we do not sort and recycle waste, new products are made from primary raw materials extracted from the earth, which places a significant burden on the environment. Recycling thus contributes to protecting nature and preserving resources for future generations.
