Recycling conserves natural resources

How much we save by recycling

Recycling offers many significant benefits that help protect the environment, conserve resources, and support the circular economy.
9 110 tons
Last year, citizens handed over more than 9,000 tons of electronic waste for recycling through the collective organization ASEKOL SK.
3 646 114 liters
We saved more than 3.5 million liters of oil—enough to fuel approximately 6,000 cars for an entire year.
43 375 MWh
We saved as much as 43,375 MWh of electricity, which is enough to power approximately 11,000 households for an entire year.
457 946 178 liters
We saved nearly 458 million liters of water, which is enough to fill approximately 183 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

Recycling is one of the simplest yet most effective ways each of us can contribute to protecting the environment. However, the amount of waste in Slovakia and around the world continues to grow.

There are several reasons for this: the population is increasing, living standards are rising, and with them, the consumption of goods. At the same time, our lifestyle is changing, becoming increasingly based on fast consumption and convenience. The result is a greater amount of waste that needs to be properly sorted and recycled.

It is precisely the sorting of waste and its subsequent recycling that play a key role in reducing the impact of waste on the environment.
Recycling helps protect the environment

Recycling has a direct impact on environmental protection. Thanks to lower energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions which contribute to climate change are also reduced.

In Slovakia, a large portion of municipal waste consists of materials that can be further processed. It is estimated that approximately 40% of waste could be recycled. If we also include biodegradable waste, proper sorting can significantly reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills.

Recycling reduces landfill waste

Waste sorting and subsequent recycling help reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills. Recyclable materials are returned to the cycle and used to manufacture new products.

There are still a large number of landfills in Slovakia—not only legal ones, but also illegal ones. That is why it is important for each of us to approach waste sorting responsibly and help reduce their number.

Recycling saves energy

Manufacturing products from recycled materials requires less energy than manufacturing them from new raw materials. Processes such as the extraction, transportation, and processing of primary resources consume large amounts of energy.

By sorting waste and subsequently recycling it, we can significantly simplify these processes and reduce energy consumption. This means more efficient production and a smaller environmental footprint.

Recycling conserves natural resources

Recycling waste helps conserve natural resources that we would otherwise have to continuously extract and process. Through recycling, used materials are transformed into new products, thereby reducing the need to use raw materials such as wood, water, and mineral resources.

If we do not sort and recycle waste, new products are made from primary raw materials extracted from the earth, which places a significant burden on the environment. Recycling thus contributes to protecting nature and preserving resources for future generations.
